Four MSE students have been chosen as the 2021 Summer MILL Fellows. These Fellows will staff the MILL over the summer, allowing access and training to MSE Research Scholars and other researchers from across the campus. MILL Fellows will also develop tools and trainings to improve future MILL operations and safety protocols for all users. This summer, the MILL Fellows are being supported through 3M Corporation and funding from the Provost’s Office. The four 2021 MILL Fellows are:

Juliette Carpet, a rising fourth year MSE student, who has worked on the MILL Processing Team in the past, and is currently part of the Textile L&D Team. Carpet is looking forward to making improvements to MILL operations, as well as helping students with their MILL projects over the summer.

Alp Kulaksizoglu is a third year MSE student and has been a part of the MILL’s Processing and Characterization Teams. As a Technical Officer, he is responsible for training new users and maintaining the Leica Optical Microscope. This summer, Kulaksizoglu plans to create video tutorials for MILL equipment and is excited to assist MILL users.

Alexander Marin, a third year MSE student, has served on the MILL Measurement Team for three semesters. Marin’s summer plan is to help integrate the SUMS system into MILL operations and help develop a plan to safely increase access to the makerspace for fall.

Ryan Zhou is a first year MSE student who has been part of the MILL's Characterization Team for two semesters. He is currently the Technical Officer of the XRD/XRF, responsible for new user training and assisting on Characterization Team projects. The MILL is expecting to receive a new SEM this summer, and Zhou eager help set it up.

The MILL and its facilities for materials processing, characterization and measurement will be open to all summer researchers from May 24 to August 6.  Learn more at www.mill.mse.gatech.edu
