Brettmann Wins Gold in International Competition
Everyone has hobbies and activities beyond their job responsibilities. For Assistant Professor Blair Brettmann, her hobby, water polo, took her to Paris this summer to compete in the International Gay Games, the world's largest sporting event that is open to all competitors with no qualifying standards. As a strong ally of the LGBT+ community, she is proud to play with the Atlanta Rainbow Trout, an LGBT+ friendly aquatics club that practices at Georgia Tech. Professor Brettmann’s water polo team competed against 16 teams from around the world and she competed in four swimming events, including two mixed gender relays. While the water polo team did not place, Prof. Brettmann received four gold medals in swimming.
Professor Brettmann joined MSE in January 2017. She grew up in the Kansas City area, but considers herself more of a Bostonian after her seven years there through grad school and her first job. She’s been playing aquatics sports for has long as she can remember, including swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo.
